Dr. Haimanote Bayabil is an Associate Professor of Water Resources in the UF/IFAS Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Florida. He leads his research program at the Tropical Research and Education Center (TREC) in Homestead, Florida. Dr. Bayabil earned his Ph.D. in Biological and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University, specializing in hydrology and soil and water management. Dr. Bayabil mentors students and early-career researchers interested in water resources, hydrology, and sustainable agricultural systems. His work integrates field monitoring, modeling, and applied research to address challenges related to irrigation management, soil moisture dynamics, runoff and erosion processes, and water quality. His research experience also includes hydrologic modeling, climate change impact assessment, and greenhouse gas flux monitoring. Through mentorship and collaborative research, Dr. Bayabil supports students in developing strong analytical, field, and modeling skills while working on real-world water management challenges. His program focuses on developing practical and sustainable water management strategies that conserve freshwater resources while enhancing crop productivity and protecting water quality.
